ATI All-in-wonder 9600 - TV error - HELP

G

galojay

This is the error I get:

The TV player failed to initalize.
Check the Windows Device Manager to ensure that the correct video
driver has been installed and is working properly before attempting to
restart TV.

Ok... I have REFORMATTED TWICE my computer, making ATI the FIRST thing
I have installed. I have installed all the current drivers and
software off ATI website (might I add the install is rather confusing
off the website, why not make ONE file that includes everything? It is
not clear). I have tried the origional CD. NOTHING WORKS. This used
to work on my computer.

I have more trouble with ATI and am tempted to run to the store and
just buy another brand. This has consumed entirely too much of my
time. I need to know what I need to do so I can use this card for its
purpose.

Please, anyone who can help, I'd appreciate it.

First off, stop reformatting. You can clean up a bad install following the
instructions at ati.com/install.
Are you using the latest versions of MMC and Catalyst?. Catalyst contains
the video drivers and the WDM drivers for tuner/video part of the card.
AFAIK, If
your using MMC 9.13/9.14 it requires the Unified driver available in the
newer
versions of the Cats. So use the Cat6.6 release. The latest Cats require
Microsoft's .NET. I've always installed the Cats then MMC in the order they
appear on the webpages but you may need to check the release notes and the
install page already mentioned.
What version of MMC does the CD have? If you install 9.13/9.14 then go back
to an older version you need to do a complete cleanup, again from the
/install page. What happened when things stopped working? Do the drivers
appear to be installed correctly in Device Manager?
Get the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard if you don't already
have them installed. They should be the first thing installed after the O/S
unless your using a restore disc.

I don't really know why ATI packages like they do but suspect it has to do
with the fact they make video cards, multimedia cards, and combo VIVO & AIW
cards. MMC is used in the 3 latter cards. Makes it possible to use two
multimedia cards at the same time, more or less. Your question may be
rhetorical but I see it often enough and think one card owners don't see
this
aspect. IIRC MMC9.06 was the first version with a Configuration utility that
recognized my AIW9600XT as a Radeon. That probably shows another reason.

First, thank you for your reply.

I am installing Catylist 6.6 and MMC 9.14, the most current. I have
isolated the problem to the Device Manager, The ATI T200 Unified
AVStream Driver has a "!" next to it. Not sure why though. I've
uninstalled ATI completely (registery and directories included), and
reinstalled, in the order of the website. No luck.

I've searched and seen where others have the same problem, but yet to
see a solution.

I have a working 9600ati aiw. Here are some of my notes:

win xp sp2, dfi landparty nf3

windows media encoder 9 must be installed
dat...jet database must be installed
direct x 9 must be installed

the files:
mmc-8-1-0-0dao-mdac.exe database stuff

mmc-9-0-0-0.exe multimedia center 9.0 this requires
tv-capture-wdm-6-14-10-6227.exe be installed

tv-capture-wdm-6-14-10-6227.exe the capture drivers..install before
multimedia center

you will see these items present, device manager/system:

ati wdm rage theater audio
ati wdm rage theater video
ati wdm specialized mvd codec
ati wdm specialized pcd codec
ati wdm tv autio crossbar
ati wdm tv tuner

display drivers:
xcp-mce-8-00-040322a-014266c.exe these are catalyst 4.4 These work with all
versions of 9600pro xt, aiw, etc.

I have 2 red install cds. The cd with 200 on it is their final version, with
all the software. It will install everything, but the wdm captures drivers
are not compatable with the above software.

You can just change the control panel/drivers, leave multimedia center 8.6
installed. But changing to 9.0 capture drivers are gone. You had to install
the tv-capture-wdm-6-14-10-6227 to work.

I do not install the fm radio, only tv and stills gallery, dv player.

good luck

I called support finally this morning and they are thinking it is a
problem with the card, so I am sending it in, RMA'ing it.

Good thing I kept my old card for backup!

Starting with, IIRC, CAT6.2 the WDM driver was changed to:
ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver
Not individual drivers. AFAIK it's required for MMC9.13/4.
