ATI 9800 Pro and Gigabyte board Conflicts

Running Gigabyte GA-7S748-L board with AMD 2600 512 MB ram

ATI 9800 Pro.

Here's the problem. I can run 3D mark fine, but machine is not stable
in 8X AGP mode.

I have read some of the posts on google boards, and they mention
checkin IRQ conflicts. This board has on-board sound, but I disabled
that from BIOS.

Any recommendations. Of course Win XP Professional says there are no
conflicts, but what does Microsoft know.

Catalyst 4.2 drivers installed. SiS chipset 1.17 drivers installed.
and latest BIOS (F5) updated.



Anyone else ever have this problem??

I have noticed on the boards that performance is negligible. Should I
just be happy with what I have? ANd keep it at 4x?

I've heard that the performance difference between AGP 4x and 8x is negligible.
How negligible I don't know though (wish someone had stats on this).

do you have an option in the bios/cmos setup to Reset Configuration
Data? PnP OS installed?
reset config data to -YES and PNP OS to -NO

Also you could try a 'clearing' of the CMOS this will set to default.
Boot and then start to raise/lower memory timings and video settings.
Also once again check the voltages in the hardware monitor to see if
there is a sign that further testing of the PSU is in order.

Well I checked as suggested.
There is no way to set PNP OS that I saw, it would seem that this is a
very limited BIOS.

I am not looking at the ASUS A7N8X or the A7V. I have heard bad
stories about the VIA chipset however, and noticed that there is a $20
for the nForce.

I'll post this to a different board.

There is no way to set PNP OS that I saw, it would seem that this is a
very limited BIOS.

I am not looking at the ASUS A7N8X or the A7V. I have heard bad
stories about the VIA chipset however, and noticed that there is a $20
for the nForce.

I'll post this to a different board.

you could try www.amdmb.com , they have a good gigabyte forum. if i
remember correctly, you can access more features by pressing ctrl/f1
in the bios

I have seen some tests, but only in passing. Wblane, why don't you turn down
your card to 4x and run some benchmarks to see the difference.
I think it might be in the order of ~5%, it's not 2x as fast as it might
sound. There are other issues (mobo, RAM, etc..) which mean the full
potential bandwidth of a VGA card might not be used.

Hi, after having some stability problem ie: computer lock up.
i decide to re arrange the connection of the hardware plug.

With the problem my hard drive was in parrallel with the ati 9800pro.
combined with a 300w psu. so i figure that my system was unstable
because of a big use of (current) on the almentation cord. so i
deceided to change the connection from the hardrive to the cd-rom.

Just after that i did run some game and voilà. no more problem.

i just hope it will continue that way...
