Athlon 64 3000+ Stock Fan Issue

AWU

When the fan on my A64 3000+ goes over 5000 RPM, it starts to make a strange
scratching/scraping sound. Has anybody else experienced this? Should I be
concerned?

Thanks for your help,

Over 5000? Mine doesn't get near that high. It's a Delta AFB0712HHB fan,
rated at 4300RPM at 13v.

Is that Delta stock?

If you mean did it come with the cooler, yes. Of course you have to take
it off to see the delta label and P/N on the other side of the fan.

Haven't seen or used a stock A64 fan yet, but the only time I've had
really noisy fans was because they were off balanced, so if it vibrates
beyond normal try putting a "tiny" piece of tape on one blade, moving
the tape around until you find the sweet spot to smooth out the
vibrations and re-balance the fan as best you can.

Otherwise just exchange it for a new one with your retailer (or AMD if
applicable). You should only hear the air noise from a fan, no rattling
noises or excessive vibration.

Ed

Thanks. I'm going to buy an Athlon 64 soon: I was hoping it would come with
something slower and quieter.
