Interesting.
Freedom is open source code and public domain programs.

Wrong. Freedom is the ability to choose between either open source and
retail products or anything else that comes your way. In your thick head,
you are trying to tell us, for example, freedom is Pepsi. Wrong. Freedom
is the ability to chose between Pepsi and Coke.
Thats what he means. Your brain has been preprogrammed in such a way
that you cannot see other solutions and even if they are presented to you,
you
have no clue of their potential.

I use open source and retail software. You continue to have no point and
you continue to prove that you assume all your data and have no real
direction with anything you say.
You are like the guy who laughed at the first cars because your horse was
better...

Wrong again. I'm the guy that chose the best model based on my needs and
which one was more economical.
The future will be very different than you think though... there will be
no Microsoft at all.. most wont even remember what it was.

You don't know what I think of the future. It seems to me you were taught
by the same lemmings.
Star Trek is a view of a non capitalistic society where people work not
for money,
but for enjoyment and growth. It is an alternate reality, and perhaps it
is the only way
for us to survive.

Good for you? Go watch more TV since it's clearly the source of your
education.

Um....Hitler anyone??? You are living in a dream world. Trust me, "the
world" doesn't need you. Try to stick to a group of people that need help.
However, try to help and not actually preach about the "free world" as that
seems to be all you are capable of.

You blatantly ignore facts and apply the teachings of a TV show. Sorry, but
it's hard to take you seriously.

Your definition of "freedom" amounts to the freedom to choose between "do
you want to die from lung cancer or brain cancer?".

Freedom is being able to buy food in a store without having to purchase
either Pepsi or Coke. Freedom is being able to purchase a computer without
having Windoze preloaded and being forced to pay for that Microcrap when
purchasing hardware. Unfortunately, Microslop has the manufacturers in a
catch-22 situation. If they want a "good rate" on Windoze, they have to
bundle it with all the computers they sell. It's known commonly within the
computing world as "the Microsoft tax".

Freedom also means the ability to change software's behavior when the
end-user requires such changes and this is accomplished by having the
software come with its source code. Freedom also means being free to copy
said software to any other computer one owns without paying additional
money to do so and without "activation" restrictions. These last 2 freedoms
can only come about through using Open Source Software.

Please look here for a definition of what "free software" means ...

That's what you got from what I said? That explains a lot.
Freedom is being able to buy food in a store without having to purchase
either Pepsi or Coke.

You just repeated what I said however you included another consumer product.
At least you are learning.
Freedom is being able to purchase a computer without
having Windoze preloaded and being forced to pay for that Microcrap when
purchasing hardware.

No one forces you to buy Windows because you are never FORCED to buy a
specific computer. Therefore your use of the word "forced" is ignorant.
Unfortunately, Microslop has the manufacturers in a
catch-22 situation. If they want a "good rate" on Windoze, they have to
bundle it with all the computers they sell. It's known commonly within the

WRONG!

HAHAHAHA! You are foolish at best. You go on and keep preaching
falsehoods. Whatever keeps you happy.

You still can't answer the simple basic question. Freedom from WHAT?

You make up definitions of freedom yet you fail to address what you are
freeing yourself from. You can't say you are freeing yourself from MS
because NO ONE forces you to use MS.
Freedom also means being free to copy
said software to any other computer one owns without paying additional
money to do so and without "activation" restrictions.

This is where you keep failing. You obviously didn't read what I said or
choose to keep your lemming beliefs. You DO NOT OWN Windows or ANY OTHER
licensed software.
Please look here for a definition of what "free software" means ...

http://www.fsf.org/licensing/essays/free-sw.html

Is that what drives your FREEDOM speeches? You misunderstand what you read.

You have the FREEDOM to run free software.
You have the FREEDOM to run retail software.

FREE SOFTWARE does not equal FREEDOM

No one removes your freedom of choice because they charge you for their
software. MS is not doing this any more then anyone else that charges you
for their consumer product.

You are sadly misinformed and having you misunderstand such poorly
constructed and random websites is not helping your education.

Is that like someone giving you a "free puppy"?

freedoms can only come about through using Open Source Software.

Well with all due respect, most users are not interested in changing any
kind of source code. That's stuff for programmers like me, and I don't even
like messing with source code of applications I use! I don't have time for
that...I have a job to do and work to get done.

Open source *does* have its place. It's wonderful for large scale community
projects that have a lot of contributors. That's the main thing I see it
good for more so than the users end as the average user isn't able, nor has
any interest to, understand the code for even the simplest hello world
program.

In a commerical setting though where a company, or a person, essentially
lives off proprietary knowledge open source has no place. For retail apps,
it has no place. If I wanted to release my applications as open source I
might as well go file for bankruptcy right now because I'd loose my entire
income. I can't be better than the competition in a competitive marketplace
if the competition can simply download my app, look at my code, and know
what I am doing to be better.

Now don't think I am anti open source or anything. I am not, matter of fact,
I am currently looking for ways to contribute to WINE just as one example.

I just don't think Open source is better, or worse, than anything else. I
just view it as a different solution to different types of problems where
closed source would not be appropriate or would not work.
