ASUS MB & keyboard issue

New ASUS A7V8X-X MB, WINXP Home, PS/2 Keyboard. Keyboard will work in boot.
After XP loads pressing any key will lock the keyboard and mouse. after
restart keyboard will disappear from Device Manager. Changed to USB mouse,
fixed the mouse problem. I took the 1st MB (same model) back and got a new
one. This one is doing the same thing. Tried a different keyboard (PS/2) same
thing.
I have seen some postings about this model ASUS MB and KB problems but I
want to see if it could be XP causing the problem. Haven't tried a USB KB, I
want to rule out the MB before I buy a new KB. Anybody have any ideas.
Thanks

If the keyboard will work in boot, then it's not an XP issue.

If you have issues with keyboard after XP is loaded, then you have inherited
problems from bootup, in that the keyboard may be faulty or the motherboard
keyboard interface is faulty.

If not satified, get a different brand Mobo.

Definitely a hardware [keyboard / motherboard keyboard socket] problem.
