Asus A7V266 Post Codes???

Maybe this is too old.

I have an ASUS A7V266 512MB running Win98SE (need it for software
compatiblity). This computer runs 24/7. This morning it went dead and
the only thing it would do would repeat a single beep.

I can't get any info from the ASUS site (seems to be broken).

I opened the case and reseated memory. When I try to power up now,
NOTHING! Not even a beep.

Any Ideas or suggestions??

TIA, Joe

Clear CMOS

Check battery

Examine board, video card, rest of system for failed
capactiors and fans.

Check other cables and cards

Disconnect all parts nonessential to POSTing, leave only
CPU, video, heatsink/fan, 1 memory module.

Try another video card, preferably low-powered, preferably
PCI.

Playing odds it'd be a fan failure causing further parts
overheat-failure, the power supply, or motherboard itself.
Fans are easily enough checked, all should be spinning even
when system isn't POSTing (except in rare cases, mostly OEM
boards). PSU, Google for test methods or try another one.
Motherboard being most complex would require another board
installed.

Turns out it was a power supply. A relatively easy fix. Normally I
have one around and would have tried that almost immediately, but I
had just replace a power supply on another computer a week or so ago.

Thanks kony for your tips. I always appreciate help that I get here,
even when I don't ask a question.

Thanks to all who answer questions.
