Asus Motherboard problem.

Alex Devlin

Just bought an Asus P4P800 SE.

Installed it and when I turn it on I get nothing. No video signal to the
monitor and no post beeps. Fans are getting power but hard drive doesn't
seem to be spinning up. Checked all connections and everything seems ok.

I'm thinking dead motherboard. Any other suggestions before I return it?

Dead board wouldn't usually keep drives from spinning up.
I suspect insufficient power suppy, what make/model is it?

You might try disconnecting ALL components nonessential to
POSTing the system (leave only video, CPU, one memory module and
heatink-fan connected, disconnect even keyboard and mouse),
install an old low-power PCI video card instead if you have one
available, and if there are jumpers to underclock, lower board to
lowest speed possible (underclock for the time being).

Also try clearing the CMOS.

I tried clearing the CMOS and still nothing.
I even tried connecting just the motherboard and nothing else, no cpu,
memory, nothing and still I don't get any POST beeps.

Unfortunately I just bought all of this as my new system and I have
nothing to test it on or test on it to see if it's a certain part not
working.

You tried putting some speakers into the audio line-out to see what what the
POST boot Voice says about things?

Try without CPU and memory at first. Then add CPU, try again, then add
memory, try again.. until you can see what gives the error.

But the most likely problem is your PSU. What wattage is it? Does it give
at least 15A on the 12v line?

Tried just the mb on it's own and still nothing. Speakers plugged in but
apart from a sound (the same elctrical click you get when powering up a
stereo sometmes) from the speakers when I turn it on I get nothing else.

Power supply is an Allied 400W giving 17A on the 12V line.

Can you get into the BIOS? If you can that's a good sign. If you can,
enable all the Boot Voice options. Your PSU seems able enough, so maybe you
have a duff motherboard.

And sorry to mention this, but, make sure you have the extra power
connectors connected to the motherboard too.

I've got the ATX and the 4 pin plug connected to the motherboard. I'd
give my right testicle to be able to SEE the BIOS screen never mind get
into it! Still getting nothing. Is ther another power connector I may be
missing? Can't see anything that could be.

Steady on! No motherboard is worth a testicle.
