Beep on ASUS A7V266-MX

I have ASUS A7V266-MX Motherboard with a AMD Athlon 2400+ Processor.
Every now and then I get a long beep when I boot my system running Win
98SE. Could anyone please tell me what does this beep mean? This beep
is not mentioned in the manual and when I sent an email to ASUS I did
not get an answer. The system runs perfectly well after that.
I will be very grateful to anybody who could answer my query.
Thank you.

I run this board and same processor.. I've never had a beep out of it at
all during boot... unless I remove memory or something just as critical and
then try to boot.

Dear Dave G,
Thank you very much for your response. I'll tell my vendor that it
is a memory problem.

And when he asks you for more details... you can say that you've forgotten
what they are...

Dear Dave G,
My vendor changed the memory and now there are no more boot up
beeps.
Thanks for your help.

My friend has an AMD 1700+ processor, I don't know if it is a Duron or
an Athlon. Will it work with an ASUS A7V266-MX motherboard? He wants
to buy this board.

Why not take a look here... it's a great web-site I've found which deals
with Asus motherboards... it's fantastic

http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

hope this helps

Dear Dave G,

Best wishes,
