ASUS A7N266-VM Memory

I have an ASUS A7N266-VM motherboard and I was looking at upgrading
the memory.

The ASUS website says that the motherboard can handle upto 1GB of
memory in 2 PC2100 DIMMs. I presume this means a max of 512MB per DIMM
(rather than 1x1GB and you can't then use the 2nd slot)

Question 1: Has anyone used larger than 512MB on this motherboard? I
was just wondering if this limit was because at the time of ASUS
writing the docs the largest DIMMs available were 512MB.

Question 2: Can you use faster memory than PC2100? I don't expect the
memory to run at it's full speed, it's just that PC2700 (and even
PC3200) memory seems cheaper than PC2100 at the moment.

yes, 512 pr. slot

This is mainly set by the chipset of the board. The bios cannot change
it.
You could check if any other boards with that chipset specify larger
limit. Anyway 1 Gbyte is acceptable even with x64 OS.

Make a search with google: a7n266-vm gbyte ram

yes, faster pc3200 can also be used. They might be the cheapest. On
the other hand you can buy the cheapest brand, since the speed is not
used.

best regards
