Assigning Office XP from GPO doesn't work...

Hi,

I'm trying a new installatino of Windows 2003 server and I want to install
Office XP from an administrative central point with the GPO.

I've created a new GPO and putted the Office XP MSI file on it for my users.
Then I've linked this GPO to my OU where to deploy it.

But nothing appear !!
nothing is installed or nothing appears in the Add/Remove program dialog box
when I open an XLS document Windows doesn't try to install Office XP.

I've tryed to install it at the computer level, but it's the same result and
also if I publish it instead-of assign it !!!

There is anything special to do ???

thanks.

Jerome.

Hey,

Here are a couple suggestions:

You said you put the .msi in the admin share pooint.
That's not enough. You have to do a complete
Administrative install into the share. This is done by
starting the setup program with the switch /a
(setup.exe /a. Then tell the install wizard to install
it into the admin share. Then create the gpo and point
the gpo to the data1.msi in that admin share. While you
are at it make sure you update it to SR1a at a min and
better to go to SP2 as well. Do this before you assign
or publish it if possible.

Also, to get it to work in 2003 if you are assigning
office, you have to go into advanced deploy and choose
the "basic" option. I have not tried publishing in 2003
but I suspect you would have to do it there aslo.

Goog luck

Rory

Well...

I've found the problem and the solution

It's simply a DNS configuration problem!!!
Because my sttation not used the DNS server where the AD is!
So , I've changed the DNS configuration of my station and all is fine now.
