Assigned Tasks will not open, accept or delete?

I am not on an exchange server. When I recieve an assigned task from another
outlook user they appear in my inbox but nothing happens when I click accept
or decline. The task remains in my inbox, the task does not appear in my
task list even if I click accept. The assignor receives nothing back from me.

Diane, I thought if you were not using an exchange server you could accept or
decline but this action would not be sent back to the sender nor would it
appear in your task list. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
