Assign s/w to computers

I want to create a GPO that assigns s/w to computers. I want to apply this
GPO to a particular OU that already has computers in it. That is; most of
the computers in this OU already have a particular s/w package that I would
like to assign. I just want the s/w to be assigned to the computers that
don't currently have the s/w package (mainly the new computers that I add to
the OU). Are there any problems I will have with this? I don't want this
new GPO to mess up any previous installations of s/w that might already be
on the computers in that OU. Any comments? TIA.

As long as the previous installed packages came from a msi-file and are
correct installed, the installer will recognize this on startup.

You could just test this by creating a new OU and putting a computer
with the package and one without the package in there. Then just apply
the package...

cheers,
