assertions errors

im getting assertion errors, something about c++ assertion failed, then i
have to reboot to fix it temporaraly and this only started happening after i
had to install a newer version of norton anti-virus, i never heard of this
error before and its ticking me off

Does it continue to happen if you uninstall the Norton product?

Asertion failures mean one of three things:

1) programming bug (ie some symantec programmer screwed up ome line of
code)
2) not enough resourses (eg ram)
3) Bad ram.

If the ram ain't happy, things tend to crash, actual crashes vary by
the amout, location and location of damage. Also by what's installed.
Symptoms vary from the BSOD, to funky video, to virtually anything.
