As bad as it gets! Genius Req'd

After converting my C drive from FAT32 to NTFS the system continually
reboots. This happens shortly after seeing the initial windows xp logo.
Just before re-booting I see a blue screen for a split second.
I’ve started the system using a dos boot disk. When typing “C:†I get
“Invalid drive specification.â€
I’ve also used fdisk and can see the partition as active and NTFS.
The problem is that I don’t believe it has any ‘attribues’ or something is
wrong with them.

I tried repairing the Windows Installation by Booting from XP cd -
everything went as normal but no repair option. At the point where it
normally gives you the repiar option, it found ‘Partiition 1 [Unknown] ‘ ...
This should be ‘Partition 1 [NTFS] ‘…., hence (I presume) no repiar option.
So now I'm in trouble. I’ve spent days on this. Any thoughts? Thanks a
million. Patrick

No genius, just links.

Assuming the conversion was bungled, there are bootable CD's you can
use to "repair" the damage

UltimateCD
http://www.skeeterbytes.com/ultimatecd.htm

Hiren Boot CD (home page)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hiren.thanki/bootcd.html
Torrent download
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3524221/Hiren_s_BootCD_8.4
Torrent Program http://utorrent.com/

And Linux Live CD http://www.knoppix.org/
you can use to attempt to mount your Partition, and repair that way.

View the blue screen:
Tap F8 to go to advanced options and choose "Disable automatic restart"
You have to do it each time you boot because it gets enabled every time you
reboot. If you can get into windows then press WinKey + Break > Go to
Advanced tab > Click 2nd settings button > Uncheck automatic Restart.
Post the error message in the boot screen back here.
When you boot from the Dos cd , some drive letters are changed. So try
different drive letters.

Thank you for that. Windows XP starts and I get the blue screen with STOP
0x00000024 which is of course is related to the NTFS File system. I don't
think the conversion went very well and I strongly suspect it is a lack of
disk space issue that has caused it. Any thoughts?

A dos boot disk is not going to see a NTFS partition.
Have you tried booting to Safe Mode?

Exactly the same blue STOP screen appears in safe mode. The NTFS conversion
is definitely ruined somehow
