Area code rule maximum ...........

My company is using the XP Fax console on workstations,
with a 2003 server handing the fax traffic.

On the server, I go into Phone and Modem Options/Dialing
Rules/Edit/Area Code Rules. I need to put in a long (316)
list of local prefixes require dialing the area code.

The maximum number of prefixes I can put in is about 257
though, it won't go beyond that, creating an error
character and deleting the area code from the top of the
screen.

Is there any way to add more than 258 prefixes?

I didnt get what you are trying to accomplish, could you explain more on
your scenario.

In phone and Modem dialing options you need to configure based on your
current location (not on the destination locations).

While faxing, the destination number from send wizard and your current
location information from the Phone and Dialing options will be used to
decide the exact number to be dialed. For Eg, if the destination number and
your current location are in the same area, Fax service will not dial
country and area code.
