Are updated drivers removed when XP is uninstalled?

I was setting up an old Dell that used to run Win 98 for my son to use with
games. It had a dysfunctional CD driver, so when I installed XP, it updated
the driver and everything was humming. Also, I'm now using an LCD flat pannel
monitor for which Win 98 had no driver, but XP provided one that works great).

But some of the games (new and old) that he wants installed only run on Win
98. None of the games run only on XP, so I'm probably going to uninstall XP
and go back to 98.

But will I lose any drivers updated by Win XP if I do this? And if I do, is
there any way to create a backup file of these drivers before the uninstall,
so that I can reinstall them from Win 98? (By going to my computer,
properties, hardware, device manager, right click the item needing the
driver, go to update driver, browse to location, etc.). I've updated drivers
before when I knew the source disk, but never had to find and back up a
driver before....

Thanks.

As the XP drivers are different from the Win98 drivers, you'll lose them,
and there is little point in trying to back them up.

All that I can suggest is downloading all the Win98 drivers that you'll
need, and burning them to CD. (The downgrade to 98 will require formatting
the boot partition, I think.)

Those must be oldish games, as XP has been out for more than four years.
