Are These Files Necessary?

I have been posting to this group about the problem I have getting TV/Video
Capture to work on my AIW 128 Pro with my new Motherboard/CPU and Windows 98

Everytime I try to use TV/Capture, the Multimedia application in control
pane, or even DxDiag the following error:

A Fatal Exception 0E has occured at 0028:00000009, The current application
will be terminated.

Now I know (dispite what google says) it has nothing to do with AOL (I
don't have it) or with my Norton System Works/Firewall ( I remove them and
still got the same error) applications.

In trying to find the cause I found listed under Components/Display in
System Information the follwing files that were marked as "Driver not
Installed." And I was wondering if maybe these were the root of my troubles.

The Files are:
DMSSA70.INF
ATIVPDXX.INF
ATIVTTXX.INI
ATIVXSXX.INF
ATIVRVXX.INF
ATIVRAXX.INF
ATIVMVXX.INI
ATIVMDXX.INI
TITUNEP.INI
BT829.INF
ANTITUNEP.INF
ATUSVE

If these are not the cause of my problems, then I am at the end of my rope.
I have tried various drivers/mmc versions and nothing helps.

I hope that this time just maybe the problem lies somwhere in these "missing
files"

Thank You for any help.

I'm new to the group, so I haven't seen your other posts, but
you got some junkers there. First the AIW tv capture was always
a dog, and it helped put Hauppauge to the head of the class
for doing that. From 2 or 3 years ago, everybody knew not to
mess with the AIW cards, and to get the straight video card
and the Hauppauge card. Next, W98 is very software driven.
It just doesn't like hardware, and prefers to emulate it with
software. So it doesn't speak hardware addresses very well.
We all went through that about 5 years ago with all the Word
Perfect upgrades, and MS Publisher ... same errors you are
getting .. just like everybody else did. By the way, the fix
for that was to eliminate any sign of the IOMEGA drivers.
The fix for everything you are talking about is to buy WinXP
Pro, and upgrade that video card ... the Hauppauges are on
sale at Mwave.com. My 350 is great, and it runs well with
my ATI 9800 Pro ( non - AIW ).

Took as chance and I tried that, no change
First the AIW tv capture was always dog,

Worked fine for me until I updated my motherboard/CPU

Well since I just spent money to buy the new MB/CPU 5 days before I was made
unemployed makes buying anything (let alone paying for what I got)
impossible.

You might do better with XP.
In trying to find the cause I found listed under Components/Display in
System Information the follwing files that were marked as "Driver not
Installed." And I was wondering if maybe these were the root of my
troubles.

Either one or more drivers are not installed or, for some reason, are not
registered as being installed.
The Files are:
DMSSA70.INF
ATIVPDXX.INF
ATIVTTXX.INI
ATIVXSXX.INF
ATIVRVXX.INF
ATIVRAXX.INF

Installation information files (used in the installation process). Leave
them or delete them, as you see fit. They don't do anything after the
installation, but can be handy to reuse if a driver gets borked, etc.
ATIVMVXX.INI
ATIVMDXX.INI
TITUNEP.INI

Config files. I wouldn't eliminate them unless you're sure the software
will automatically regenerate them.
BT829.INF
ANTITUNEP.INF

A couple more installers.

I'm not sure what this one does, but the name suggests it relates to an ATI
value edition TV card, U.S. version.
If these are not the cause of my problems, then I am at the end of my
rope. I have tried various drivers/mmc versions and nothing helps.

IIRC from some other threads, the VE versions of the ATI software either
don't do capture or there have been problems with it. That's an mmc issue,
as I recall. You might want to try a trial version of Sage or one of the
other capture capable apps & see if there's an improvement.

One other note. Several others have suggested switching to a Hauppage card.
I started with an ATI TV Wonder. It worked well under XP & several flavors
of linux. But a number of people raved about the Hauppage models & how
much better they were supported in linux. So, thinking I was going to get
better video, reception &/or usability, I returned it for a Hauppage.
Worst TV image & reception I've ever had. I ended up going back &
replacing the Hauppage with the TV Wonder, again.

In linux, I had varying success with different TV apps. I'd suspect the
same would be true for Windows, as well. And, since I had more success
with the ATI card where others did better with Hauppage, there may be some
differences depending on what hardware, software & drivers you already have
installed & working.
