Are there problems with the ASUS A78X Board

I had a vendor switch a mother board in a computer we ordered with a MSI
board.
We wanted the ASUS A78X board. The Vendor said that ASUS has recalled this
board because there was a temp. problem with it.

Sounds fishy to me so I thought someone may have heard the same thing.

Well, unless it's with a new batch of boards, I would say the guy is full of
it. I have two A7N8X Deluxe boards and my son has one. We don't have any
problems. Our boards are a few months old.

I have looked all over the web site and can not find any info about any
problems with this mother board.

Oh, there are problems with it. It is one of the premier boards for
overclocking so every 16 year old nerd has to try to beat everyone else.
They are constantly locking up the bios and burning out the bios chips.

I have a A7N8X Deluxe and I do have problems with it. I
have a Samsung 160 GB SATA HD and can not make it work
with the board. Not sure still what the problem is, but it
seems to be a BIOS problem not supporting such a big HD
altough I have updated to the latest version available
today (1007), less than 1 month old.
The motherboard looks great, with all inboard devices and
connectivity you can imagine, and I have not heard of any
recalls or problems... but I still keep on getting format
errors when trying to install my HD.
I would recomend it for smaller HDs, but think it twice if
you are going for 160 GB.

Then your suspicions are probably confirmed. Any vendor who would
substitute hardware without your permission first is certainly one to
avoid in the future.

Hi Chema,

I am interested in upgrading my mobo to A7N8X Deluxe hence my interest in
your problem. Have you tried formatting the Samsung SATA HD on other PC?
Recently I had problem formatting a newly acquired 80 gig IDE HD. The
format could not finish its job. Kept repeating the process. It turned out
that the HD was defective. So I returned it to the vendor and get a
replacement (same brand, size and model) which works just fine.
