I'm trying to hook up an HP printer (fairly new) to a Dell computer. Three
attempts and still nothing. Does anyone know if an HP printer should even be
hooked up with a Dell computer? Or is there something I should unplug before
adding the printer?
HELP!!!!!

I have hooked up several HP printers to a Dell computer with no
problems. You will need to follow HP's instructions about installing
the driver before you hook up the printer, but that is not unique to
Dell computers.

HP printers will work with Dell computers, but you have to take it step by
step. Check the date on your disc, then check online at HP.com to see if
there is a newer driver. Make certain the software is installed FIRST, before
plugging in the printer. Since you have attempted to install, make sure to
uninstall all software, and go into printers and remove the printers there.
Restart. Load software, But use custom install, and add a number one to the
end of the location were windows wants to load this... (c:/program
files/hp/printers/1) so it loads to a new folder. It should work for you then.

Of course you can connect an HP printer to a Dell computer if you follow
HP's instructions. The one thing you should unplug is the printer, but that
act is covered by the instructions.

I did exactly as you said. Now, it shows the driver on the desktop, but
there is no longer a printer icon on the lower right task bar.
I checked on the control panel and it does not show a printer is installed.

What do I do now?????
