Last January I purchased the Hitachi 250 gig internal Deskstar Drive.
A few days it failed read/write error tests and is being returned to
Hitachi for warrnty repair/exchange.

My question is on quality of Hitachi internal drives. Are they as
good, less good, better, etc.
than other drives such as Western Digital, Seagate, etc.

best, Aaron

There's bugger all in it with the reliability data on storagereview.

Some are considerably worse like Maxtor particularly.

Some of the Seagates dont do that well either.

There was a run of IBM/Hitachi Deskstar drives that were known as the
DeathStar for a high failure rate. Could be a repeat.

There are bashers for every make. In general Ive heard they are fine
nowadays . There was a rash of failures when they were made by IBM.
But since they sold it off I havent heard anything bad about them. I
have one in fact a 160 gig and havent had any problems with it. On
the other hand I havent had any problems with a lot of Maxtors Ive
owned the last few years since thats what was mainly sold here at
Compusa and other stores which switched to Seagate the last year or so
.. Now I have 4 Seagates and bought 4 more for others. No problems
though there was a real bad batch it seems from the reviews at Amazon.
