read/verify error on external hard drive

I am using Windows XP with SP2. I have Iomega External USB 160 Gig
Hard Drive.

The drive was failing to defragment completely with Norton Jet
Defragger, so I put the drive through the System Mechanic test which
showed read/verify test error at sector incement 63.

Are there any procedures to repair this problem with software? If not,
would sending it back for out of warranty repair cost less than
purchase of a new drive? (Around $100.).

The drive was purchased in Aug. 2004.

Sincerely, Aaron

Yes, it should be feasible to use the hard drive
manufacturer's diagnostic to remap that bad sector.
