Archival copy of original XP Pro CD

My understanding is that it is OK for the licensed end-user to make an
archival copy of the xp pro cd-rom. I used my vendor supplied NTI software,
and the resulting copy just hangs on boot-up. I noticed that the NTI software
noted that track 1 was unrecordable. Maybe I am wrong and I have to send to
Microsoft for a backup cd-rom. Can someone please help me out?

Download and install this:

Put in your Windows XP CD, create an ISO image of it and not only do you
have said file you can use to create a hard-copy of the CD when needed - you
can go ahead and create one now and have your backup in place.

Shenan,

Could you do me a favor? The download of isorecorder was "strange". It
said it downloaded and finished, but it hadn't when I checked the folder for
it. I redownloaded it, and all appeared to go fine, but ... I'm a little
bit paranoid.

Is it: 361KB in size?
CRC = 1,383,427,149?
If you'd rather use MD, hash, whatever, I can read those also.

TIA,

Assuming you got the Windows XP SP2 version:

369,152 bytes
ISORecorderV2RC1.msi

My disk is SP1 and I had trouble with the utility. It would make an .ISO file
but it would be 185mb not the 479mb of the original. (It did make a 479mb
image once though.) It wouldn't find either of my cd/rw drives when I went
to write the .iso to disk.

I have NTI Gold CD/DVD maker OEM version, and used that to create an image
and again, even though it verified from the disk, it was 185mb image. I used
NTI again steadfastly using their help to do the write .iso to disk. It wrote
the 185mb, but didn't have the "wxp_Pro" label for the disk, and wouldn't
boot to the ONE file it wrote to the cd/rw. It was missing the two i*.* files.

Note: I would use cd/rw media for this process in case you have problems
like I did.
