arbitrary size virtual desktop utility?

Is there a display card independent utility to create a virtual desktop
larger than the actual display resolution?

This would be handy for coaxing higher resolution out of apps when I do a
screen capture. E.g. streets and trips.

For this purpose, I don't care if the display performance is sluggish. I
just want to be able to set a virtual desktop size (e.g. 4000x3000),
maximize the app, do a screen capture, and paste the clipboard into
photoshop.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for posting!

After searching Internet, I can find some utilities named Virtual Desktop
Manager or Enhanced Virtual Desktops. However, these utilities cannot
increase the screen resolution, but divide the Desktop to several Virtual
Desktops, so that you can manage the application easily.

The screen resolution depends on the driver of display card. Please
understand higher resolution requires higher bandwidth and higher
performance display card. Even your monitor cannot support high resolution
like 4000x3000. Your display card need support high resolution. It must
have enough display memory to store the content with the high resolution.

Have a nice day!
