Appsetup problem

A friend has new XP system.
We tried to load an application (parts catalogue) from CD
and we get an error:
Appsetup caused a general protection fault in
asymctl.dll...

The application says it is supported under 95, 98 & NT.
Is this a simple compatibilty issue or do we need to add
elements to XP?
Is there no way to run the app in a 98 emulation window?

Assuming the app is successfully installed,
right click on the icon/properties/compatibility

You'll see a setting in there directly related to
this issue.
