Applying view or archive settings to folder and sub-folders

I want to be able to apply archive settings or a view to a folder and all of
its sub-folders. How does one do this. I don't see any checkboxes for
"Apply to sub-folders" on these tabs/property sheets
 
Archive settings are applied to all folders by configuring the archive
settings. Then make changes to individual folders that will not use the
settings.

views can't be applied to all folders, unless you edit the default view for
the folder type. If you show the Advanced toolbar you can easily apply any
view to each folder individually.
