Applications wont load

While deleting some adware files my compute froze and
after rebooting none of the program files will load.
Nothing, not even Windows Explorer. The strange thing is
that if I double click a file created by a program (like
a word document) the program loads and works fine. I
have tried to restore and the program wont load. Also
tried to reinstall XP from Cd and the install program
wont load.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi Bigcat, I'm not 100% positive on this one but it sounds like you're managed
to wipe out your exe file associations, so this is an idea only, try Doug's
