Applications loose focus

I have a brand new dell optiplex with Windows XP SP2 Home Edition and Office
2003 Basic. If you start an application (any application) and let it sit,
the focus turns from the application to the desktop in about 8 minutes. Has
anyone ever heard of this?

Are you sure it's your Desktop stealing the focus, and not some other
program on the Desktop? Try to find out if that is so.

One thing you can do is install the free Tweak UI utility from Microsoft.
Once installed, open TweakUI and select General / Focus and place a check
next to "Prevent applications from stealing focus".
