Applications going inactive

S

Squier

Hi Folks,

This may be a little hard to explain so bear with me.

I'll have an application open ( any application, it
happens to all of them )and all of a sudden it goes
inactive. By that I mean the application title bar greys
out like when you have several windows open and the ones
in the background are not active.

There is no pattern to it. It just seems to happen
randomly. This has been going on for a few months now. One
possibility that I suspected was some type of virus but in
the months that this has been happening, I've done many
scans with negative results.

Any ideas why this is happening?

TIA

Hi,

Not sure at this point what you are describing.....that said, suggestions:

Programs May Start, Quit, Lose, and Gain Focus Randomly
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313176&Product=winxp

TweakUI/General/Focus
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Prevent Programs from Stealing Focus - Undo (Line 66)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

When a window that does not have focus is updated by its program, the
default setting prevents it from becoming the foremost (top) window,
instead, it flashes in the taskbar.

HeldUp is the easiest way to stop windows from disappearing behind other
programs. http://www.johnmacintyre.ca/HeldUp.asp

Most welcome and keep us posted!)

Thanks Kelly! Several possibilities. I'll try one at a
time and see what happens.
