Application windows rapidly changing from window to full screen

Several applications (Internet Explorer and Control Panel for example), after
being opened, begin to very rapidly switch between window and full screen
modes. I estimate the rate of switching at 2 to 3 times a second. Does
anyone know what is causing this? It began suddenly. Virus checks with
current definitions are negative.

Try a system restore to just before the problem started. Go to Start |
Help and Support and click on System Restore in the menu bar, or Start |
All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore.

Actually that was the first thing I tried, but no joy. I should have
mentioned that in my original post. I have never seen a computer do this
before.

Did you try a different keyboard?

It was a wireless keyboard, and it turned out that the keyboard was fine, but
the little receiver that plugs into the USB had a problem.
