Application window moving up and down by itself

On a friend's Compaq/HP laptop with Vista, frequently the application window
in which one is working moves up and down by itself. Sometimes this happens
when typing. It's not from touching the thumbpad. It happens just as a
result of typing. Very disconcerting. What causes this behavior, and is
there a way to turn the feature off?

It sounds like an equipment problem. You contact the manufacture of the
computer, HP.

are the drivers up to date.

if so, might check with the manufacturer regarding the problem.

Is scroll lock on or anything like that? Are you sure that he isnt hitting any keys like the up/down arrow or something else un-knowingly? Also on my laptop it shows the touchpad and anytime it is touched. Have them glance at the taskbar and see if they have a utility like this as well. While they are typing see if the touchpad is registering any hits on it that could be causing this.
