Shuts down by itself

I have a HP laptop with windows xp( service pack 2) i was running a disk
clean and then the laptop cut off by itself, it didnt shut down the proper
way it just cut off. This has happened a few times in the past 2 days, will
trying to run disk clean and also while i was online.

Most likely it's overheating, and shutting down as a safety feature. Make
sure the fan is operating, and that it isn't blocked by anything. Trying
using some "air in a can" to clean the dust out of the fan area...

Was the notebook running on batteries?
