in event viewer this is the log

Window
An application has attempted to directly access the hard

i tried to install the app again, didn't work
the problem occured in both winxp, winme.
thanks in advance

That utility is trying to do something directly on the hard drive. Ever
since Windows 95, the older 16bit utilities that access the hard drives
directly get this message because the 32Bit Windows do not permit direct
access.

Stop using that utility or check to see if a 32bit version exists.

Since you didn't tell us the name of the application, you can't get help
from people who may be running it successfully. However, it definitely
sounds like an older program that needs to access the hardware. This
is, as the error message told you, forbidden in grown-up operating
systems like XP. That direct hardware access was a factor in why DOS
and Win9x were so unstable. You can 1) try running the Mystery
Application in Compatibility Mode (look in Help & Support for details);
2) contact the program's mftr. to see if they have an updated version
patch for XP; 3) find another program that is compatible with XP and
will do what you want; 4) keep some older boxen around to run the
program.

Good luck,

Malke
