Application platform

I am working on a simple inventory application that will be used to scan
kayaks in and out of several remote warehouses. Have a proof of concept
running on the PPC using the CF. Uses SQL CE and Remote Data Access. I know
that this is not directly related to the CF, but thought that this might be
the best place to post this:

The final application will target the Symbol PPT 8800 running either Win CE
4.1 or PPC2003. Any suggestions on which is a better choice? Any issues with
the CF on either of these two platforms? (I have my app running on the
Symbol WinCE and on a Dell X5. Seems pretty much a toss up.

One thing that I am thinking about is that WinCE does not allow IP
pass-through via Active Sync while the PPC does and I certainly think this
would be a very nice option with a couple of deployments since I might be
using RDA via a cradle and Dialup instead of via WiFi.

Comments please....

1. Windows CE 4.1 and 4.2 devices as well as PPC 2002 and PPC 2003 devices
support the .NET Compact Framework.
2. The main difference between the CE and the PPC platforms is the
behaviour of the shell (You may need to design your menus and taskbars
differently). On top of that the number of general purpose applications is
greater for a PPC device.
3. As far as I know, WIndows CE devices can support IP through an
ActiveSync connection. I am not sure about the specific Symbol device; A
symbil person should be able to help you with that.

Hope this helps

thanks for the info. pretty much what I found out after I dove in a bit
deeper, but it seems like a certain fact that WinCE does not support pass
through IP with active sync, only the PPC does that. This is a definate show
stopper for us on the WinCE side so we are going with the PPC.
