application hangs in XP Pro machine

Lately I have had a large number of application hangs, easily reproduceable
in the Brightstor ArcServe Admin utility and many other applications. What
could be causing these hangs? I have included some from the event logs as
examples.

Hanging application BrightStorMgr.exe, version 11.0.2670.19, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Hanging application BrightStorMgr.exe, version 9.0.2040.0, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Hanging application NewsRover.exe, version 9.1.3.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Hanging application msimn.exe, version 6.0.2800.1123, hang module msoe.dll,
version 6.0.2800.1158, hang address 0x00057a31.

Hanging application DNTU.exe, version 4.0.0.5, hang module hungapp, version
0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Hanging application NOTEPAD.EXE, version 5.1.2600.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Hanging application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2800.1221, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Hanging application MMC.EXE, version 5.1.2600.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
