Application error when trying to fax from clients - SBS2003

Environment: SBS2003 STD & 3 XP Pro SP2 clients

The fax service works fine from the server, but when I try to send a fax
from any application on a client machine (Word, Excel, Notepad, etc.) the
application errors out and I must quit both the application and the shared
fax program.

I have tried removing the fax printer from the client and reinstalling it
(no luck), and I have tried removing SP2 (also no luck).

Please help ASAP!!!

Sorry for the multiple copies of question - kept getting message that post
was not sent, try again.

Additional info: Application log on workstation shows Event ID 1000 with
the following info

Faulting application winword.exe, version 9.0.0.2717, faulting module
kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001eb33
