Application Error - File Corrupt but its NOT!

I have just reinstalled XP on a second machine for about the 10th time in the
last few days as the machine kept going into constant rebooting loop. It
appears updating the Bios was the solution and now i seem to have fixed that
problem.

However i have problems installing and running certain applications and keep
getting the message "Application Error File Corrupt" This message comes when
i tr and open certain applications and also when i hover over a file that i
would like to open with the corrupt application.

The problems is this is happening with more than one application and i know
the applications are fine as i have them on my primary machine and have even
copied them over and tried executing them over the network.

If i run the applications stored on either PC from my primary machine no
problem. As soon as i try to execute from the second machine from either
location i get the error.

I have no idea where to start looking or what to do.

Two applications i can remember using with this error are the Installer
program for a game called Never Winter Nights and also the simple "Media
Player Classic" Other applications seem to work fine.

My OS is XP Pro and is fully updated on both machines

Thanks Brains, i forget sometimes much help s from over the pond in the US
on UK time here and it was a whole day for me ;)

It seems the actual problem was in the Windows CD i was using.

Although i do have a legit key for the OS the pre-installed machine had one
of those crappy manufacturer install discs so i downloaded a "clean" version
on P2P and it wasnt as clean as i thought.

I borrowed a CD from a friend and installed from there and the CD Key that
came with the system works as well.

Bonus all round and im happy again now with a machine working 100%
