Apple Ipod USB driver

I have tried to connect my Ipod to my XP and it thinks the Ipod is a generic
storage volume. I have tried to install usbappl.sys, usbappl.inf but XP likes
the generic volume better so it will not install the other drivers. Can
anyone help? How do I get XP to accept the other drivers? or is there a way
to kept Xp from just installing it own volsnap driver for the Ipod?
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
