appearance problems

i have had windows xp for a while, and last week when i
booted up one morning the appearance had changed to
classic style. I went to the appearance settings and found
that windows xp style had vanished from the windows and
buttons tab. even installing windows xp pro has not solved
the problem. Can someone please help???

Hi,
Have you tried going down to the taskbar at the bottom of
the screen, and right clicking on an empty area? You
should get mini-window with a 'properties' choice at the
bottom. That in turn should open a control panel
called 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties'. On the start
menu tab there should be a choice between 'Start menu'
and 'Classic Start menu'. Perhaps this has been set
to 'classic' and needs to be set to regular.
