Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me with this one!
After struggling with a multiple modems getting Error 633 when trying
to access the Internet, I decided to uninstall SP2.
Went to the Add/Remove Programs and selected SP2. It went through
several steps to uninstall stuff and then rebooted the computer.
When it restarted an NT "blue screen" error flashed REALLY quickly and
then the computer rebooted. First, I thought the problem might be with
the monitor because I heard a popping sound.
Next I got out my original XP install disk and ran the repair feature.
It examined the installation and added some files. Upon restarting I
got the XP splash screen, my mouse came up, but the computer rebooted
again.
So I powered down completely and started in Safe Mode. I'm still not
able to launch XP successfully, however, the Windows "gui" error msg
pops up and stays longer. I'm not in front of that computer, but made
a note of it being something about low virtual memory. I have a 160Gb
drive that I created a separate partition that is used for nothing but
virtual memory.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this virtual memory issue and
launch XP successfully?
As a side note, anyone else experience the Error 633 error when trying
to dial out after installing SP2? What's whacky is that the fax part
of the modem would dial and connect just fine. It was only the modem
part that was immediately blowing out. And, as I said earlier, I tried
three different modems (two of which were new out of the box) and
uninstalled and reinstalled the Internet connections and modem drivers
for each of those several times. ARGH!!!
