LuDean - you can cancel your message.

In Outlook Express, highlight the message in the main window--i.e. without
opening it, and choose Message, Cancel message.

This will generate a cancel which may or may not eventually have effect.

That is a feature I never knew existed. I now know why. Every time I
select a Hotmail message, the menu item does not exist. When I select a
POP3 based email message, the menu item mysteriously appears. Regrettably,
almost all of my email is sent via Hotmail.

It doesn't work, as far as I know, for pop3 email, either, just for NNTP
newsgroup messages. And not all newsservers honor the cancel mechanism.
