APA Reference Wizzard

Guest

I just finished my Associates, and I am now starting by Bachelors. I have
written countless papers in APA format and still struggle with the proper
format for citing references. Microsoft, will you please put in some type of
wizard for citing sources? It is such a pain in the ass. God, I hate
resarch papers.

It may be a new feature; however, if doesn't work correctly. The format and
iindentations for the reference page does not configure the information
correctly.

So how do you do the indenting, I have not been able to indent without
changing the margins of the entire paragraph.

What do you mean? Isn't each reference a separate paragraph? You
_want_ each reference to be formatted with Hanging Indent.

In the Indentation section of the Indents and Spacing tab of the
Paragraph dialog box, select Hanging under Special and select the
desired amount under By. It's best to define a paragraph style with the
desired indentation and then apply it to all reference paragraphs.

The APA reference page in MS Word 2007 does not format correctly. MS 2007
formats the reference page with the first line indented. APA format calls
for a hanging indent for the second and subsequent lines in a reference.

There probably are formatting issues with the APA style, but what you
describe is not an error. It is caused because you didn't set the
indentation of the "Bibliography" (or a localized variant of that word)
style.

Once you inserted your bibliography, press SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+S to bring up the
style dialog. From the list, press the little arrow next to "Bibliography"
and choose "Modify...". From the "Format" button, select "Paragraph". There
you can select "Hanging" as indentation. Close all dialogs and your
bibliography should look just fine. It will remain like that when it gets
updated with new entries.
