Does anyone know,
Can I uninstall AOL instant messenger from my computer
and make it so that it is never installed on it by my
children again?

Try asking aol support.

Try looking in:
Control Panel -->Add/Remove Programs -->Change/Remove Programs

There you will see a list of all programs installed on your PC.
Look for AOL Messenger listed in that list.
If you see it listed, Highlight that entry and click the UnInstall button.
