Hi there,
I am frustrated beyond belief. I have been using AOL for 6 years and
Windows XP for 2 1/2 years. I was recently beta testing for AOL, when a d/l
screwed up my ability to connect to AOL. I removed all copies of AOL and
reinstalled and finally was able to connect but I did call AOL Tech Support
and was told to open up IE and type in www.aol.com. I already knew this
wouldn't work because I had tried it many times before or other programs had
tried to connect without success, when AOL was closed. The AOL Tech assured
me that I should be able to connect to the internet without having the AOL
software open, or beind signed on. I was not able to do so. IE acts as if
there is no open internet connect when AOL is not open and I am not siged on.
I have tried everything I can think of. When I sent a nasty email to AOL,
they assured me again that I should be able to connect to the internet
without opening their software, and that I should now contact Microsoft for
help. So here I am. I thought this was a better way than calling Microsoft
Tech Support. Anybody out there with any ideas are welcome. Thanks! Melanie
