AOE2 won't install

Whenever I click the AOESETUP.EXE or run the autorun, I get an error.

Error Signature:

AppName: aoesetup.exe
appver: 2.1999.9.1301
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180
Offset:00001277
ModName: ntdll.dll

This does NOT happen on my windows 2k machine.

I am running XPSP2 on an AMD Athlon2400.

The conquerers expansion install starts up fine, but since I can't install
AOE2ki it is moot point. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi bb1,

Let's try a couple of things to get that working for you:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Log in with an account you've created as a "Computer Administrator"
account that you'll use to play the game, but don't use a Limited account.

Well, I tried that. I got the same error. It is immediately after I start
the setup. I've tried clearing my temp to no avail.

In trying the cd with another PC, I get a cannot load importer WNASP132.dll.
Maybe I should try downloading that and putting it in system 32?

Hi bb1,

Did you do a clean install of Windows XP on your PC, or did
you do an in-place upgrade of an older version of Windows?
