anyway to REFRESH the DEVICE MANAGER on XP

I have a acer scanner and when I go to scan something I get the message
"scanner not found"

I click ok to that message and another message comes up,

"twain error [T009] error opening twain data source [T015] unable to find the twain
source manager (twain.dll). Please copy the twain.dll file from your source disk to
your windows folder [T039"

there is the twain.dll in windows, I did check

now in the scanner book it says if you get the message scanner not found here is what you do
go to the divice manager and click refresh and the scanner will work.

on windows 98 there is a refresh button and the scanner does work that way but on XP there is no refresh
button. can I ever use this scanner again??

one other thing the way the scanner is hooked up is, the printer goes into the scanner and the
scanner goes into the computer, so they both work off the same line. I have taken the printer out and
just had the scanner hooked up, but same thing. any help (e-mail address removed)
hope to see a post for some help or an e mail thanks

In Device Manager, use View, Scan for hardware changes. Sometimes this
isn't available, but I've found that if you click on the button to show or
hide the console tree, it appears.

You may or may not be able to use the scanner. What model is it?
