Anything wrong with this ?

My Computer .. Properties .. advanced .. performance
.... virtual memory ... turn off paging file

Then defrag the hard drive. I'm not sure what this
is doing, but I think it is taking a bunch of reserved
space that does not need to be reserved .. and
lays squarely in the middle of your file system ..
and defragging it. I'm guessing it may be defragging
all those security updates and other kludges in
the OS that could really slow things down.

After defragging, go back and restore the paging
file as before. I have a sneaking suspicion that
my frame rate could increase in games .. possibly
faster load times ???? Who knows ?

Yes defragging is a waste of time except in some very
specialised situations and I bet you wouldnt be able to
pick the defragged system in a proper double blind trial.

The secretary who showed me this says it greately
reduces her spreadsheet load times. It is a little
setup secret that is running through the company
offices. If you watch what happens, generally, there
are 2 green bars on the defrag display. If you turn
the page file off, 1 of those bars will dissappear
and be incorporated into the dark blue bar of
defragged files. I assume that was the page
file, and it can become a problem during some
kinds of spreadsheet work. If it is refreshed ..
by turning it back on ... maybe it is contiguous
.... and faster. I imagine some of the newer games
need it too. Pretty sure Crysis will. Also, I think
that it gets hacked up when multi-tasking like
the secretaries do ... with 10 programs open.
I'm just guessing ??

I dont believe it and bet she wouldnt be

Modern drives seek so fast, and modern OSs are
moving the heads around a hell of a lot for other
reasons, that defragging is mostly a waste of time now.

Thats when the OS is moving the heads around
anyway, so a few extra moves with a spreadsheet
thats in a few frags is going to be invisible.
I'm just guessing ??

You are indeed.
