DM shrink space question

I just got a Gateway notebook 160GB, it has around 111GB free space on drive
C but when I try shrinking it in DM, it can shrink only half that space. I
used Auslogics and Diskeeper to defrag in safe mode and I can see a bunch of
unmoveable files in the middle of the disk. I don't want to pay $70 for PM
or other software that I'll use only once. Is there a workaround? I got rid
of the paging file, hyber file, and disabled restore points but still can't
increase the shrink space.

The built-in Disk Management shrink utility will be able to decrease the
partition size till
it bumps against the first unmovable/locked system file.

If you want to decrease the partition further you will need a 3rd party Disk
Management tool. I use Acronis Disk Director suite. The latest posted
version (ver 10.0 build 2160) is 100% Vista compatible. After installing the
program, create the emergency CD. Reboot the computer and boot up
with this CD. Do your partition work from there.

You will not be hampered with locked files.

If you only want to do a one off resize, I can highly recommend BootIT
NG, they have a trial version but I guarrantee if you do use it you
will not begrudge paying aprox $30.00 .
