i'm getting a critical update for a problem with allowing hackers to view
info in memory over a network (or hackers over the net if you're ON a
network??)

if i'm not worried about people on my home network hacking me ("stop hacking
me, honey!"), is this a necessary update? or is it a www problem?

thanks

Microsoft *NEVER* distributes software via email. The mail which you
received is not from Microsoft, though the from address says so.

Please go through: Microsoft Policies on Software Distribution:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/policy/swdist.asp

NOTE: If you receive an e-mail that claims to contain software from
Microsoft, do not run the attachment. The safest course of action is to
delete the mail altogether. If you would like to take additional action,
report the e-mail to the sender's Internet Service Provider. Most ISPs
provide an "abuse" userid for this purpose.

sorry, maybe i wasn't clear: this isn't email updates. it's my automatic
updating telling me to do it and also the microsoft update website.

This is another one of those updates that is all over the
national news. I have installed it - why take changes.
When it makes national headlines, I take it seriously.

If you are referring to MS03-039 update, install it. Recommended.

I would update any critical update MS offers. Why take a change on someone
you know sending you a virus. YES, they can send you a virus and not mean
to. If you get a virus, you can pass it on and not even be aware. Protect
yourself and others.
