Anyone get Officejet G85xi to work with XP

D

Dave

I just bought a new HP pavillion with XP Media Center Edition.
I am trying to get my G85 printer installed properly(parallel
cable). The latest install executable for XP was downloaded
and installed successfully.

Here's the problem. If the PC is booted everything comes up
and works okay. If I power on the printer the icon in the
system tray changes state indicating that the printer is
ready. I can print, scan etc. okay. If I power the printer off
the icon still indicates ready and does not change. Power the
printer back on and nothing works.

Any help on how to keep the software stable would be most
appreciated. I have worked with HP on this to no avail.

use the inbox driver for this device (at least for the printer). How is the
parallel BIOS configured? Make sure it matches the recommendation from the
owners manual.

"HP OfficeJet G85xi" = MS_HPOJG85I.GPD
,DOT4PRT\Vid_03f0&Pid_0311&Rev_0100,HEWLETT-PACKARDOFFICFDA2,HP_OfficeJet_G85xi

the main problem now is the Dot4 stack. My guess is you are running with HP
Dot4 which will conflict with MS Dot4. DOT4 is how all the functions on the
device communicate over the parallel port.

The parallel port is set in BIOS as follows:
Parallel Port = Enabled
Mode = ECP
Interrupt = IRQ7
Base I/O Addr = 378

Yes, this printer uses DOT4. If there is a conflict what can I
do about it?

Thanks

This looks like a registry entry. Can you explain a little further
as to how to verify this configuration.

Thanks

Can you please explain the configuration for DOT4 above? It

Thanks,

there's nothing to config for DOT4 stuff. It's in the registry under
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\
I don't have a multifunction device so unsure after this point.

The information from my previous post was from ntprint.inf a driver
installation file.

look in windows\system32\drivers for DOT4 drivers. Make sure you do not
have hpdot4 and dot4. You would need to uninstall one of them. I don't
think MS has a good uninstall program for these core components (well yes we
do it's called a clean install). If HP has and uninstall program for this
device it probably cleans up these files.

Alan,

Thanks for the reply. I will look at this over the weekend.

Also, I may try to run the printer on USB and see if that won't
solve the problem.
