I've created a merge document and I save the file with the correct format and
parameters. Once I reopen the document the fomat is changed.

The main thing that is switching is the tab options. I have an outline
document with Letters and Numbers with the same tab indention. But when I
save it and then reopen it the letters tab indention is fine, but the number
tab indention changes to a really small indention.

I don't want the tab indentions to change at all, I would like them to stay
consistent with the template.

Is there a setting in word that I'm missing...

thank you for any assistance.

Indents and tabs in numbered styles cannot be set through Format | Tabs;
they have to be set through Format | Bullets and Numbering.

Ok, I understand what you said. So whenever I open a document in word I have
to change the format from normal to which ever one I customized. Is there
any way I could have word open with the customized template? Instead of
choosing it everytime.

Thank you for your help.

Are you talking about customized numbered styles or a new template? Have you
saved your modified styles to Normal.dot by checking the "Add to template"
box?

I'm not really sure on how to customize Normal.dot...I thought I had tried
that, but it didn't seem to work. How do I customize Normal.dot...just to
check what I did before?

thank you.

Just some more info: whenever I create the merged document if I save it as a
RTF the document stays the same with the correct indentions. But if I save
it as a word doc it changes the indentions on some of the document.

That is what I used as a resource before and it didn't seem to fix the
problem or maybe I didn't follow it right. I will try again. Thanks for
your help.
